Boiler maintenance-plan marketing in British Columbia

BC is really two boiler markets: a mild, wet coast where customers forget about heat until it rains for a week, and a colder Interior and North where the season starts early and runs long. Your plan and campaigns should treat them differently.

British Columbia is home base for us, and it is one of the trickiest provinces in which to time a boiler program. A reminder that lands perfectly in Kelowna can arrive weeks too early for a household in Richmond, and a plan sold in Prince George has to promise something different from one sold in Victoria. We plan BC programs region by region, not province-wide.

The BC boiler market and its customers

Short answer: a mixed gas and electric province with a large stock of hydronic homes in older neighbourhoods and a strong appetite for efficiency.

Statistics Canada reports that in 2023, 42% of BC households relied on natural gas for primary heat and 36% on electricity. Boiler households sit inside both groups, since boilers can burn gas or run on electricity, so your customer list will usually hold a mix of both. The biggest pools of potential plan members are around Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond and Coquitlam, with strong secondary markets in Kelowna, Abbotsford and on Vancouver Island around Saanich and Victoria.

Wherever they live, BC homeowners can compare plans in a few minutes online. A plan that explains exactly what happens at each visit gives them a reason to choose yours without a discount. Our plan design service starts there.

Seasons and climate

Short answer: the coast has mild, wet winters, while the Interior and the North are much colder with longer heating seasons.

That difference drives everything about timing:

Area Suggested campaign start Why
Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island Late August Heat goes on gradually through October and November
Southern Interior Mid-August The Interior turns cold sooner than the coast
Northern BC Early August Short shoulder season, long heating season

On the coast, there is also a useful spring window. After a long, damp winter, households who had trouble respond well to a spring reminder, which fills the slow months of April and May. Our tune-up campaigns page explains how to run both.

Regulators to know

Short answer: Technical Safety BC is the main body for boilers and gas; WorkSafeBC and SkilledTradesBC also matter to your business.

  • Technical Safety BC covers boilers, pressure vessels and gas systems, and it licenses gas contractors.
  • WorkSafeBC handles workplace safety and insurance.
  • SkilledTradesBC handles trade certification, including gasfitters.
  • Consumer Protection BC is the consumer protection authority, worth knowing about when you write plan terms.

We name and link these bodies so you know where to look. We don't give compliance advice. BC also has its own private-sector privacy law, as the federal privacy commissioner's summary explains, which matters when you handle customer lists.

Current programs your customers may ask about

Short answer: as of October 2026, BC programs focus on heat pumps and envelope upgrades, so your plan marketing should not lean on boiler rebates.

What this means for a boiler service company: some customers will ask whether they should switch. A plan that includes an honest yearly look at the system, and a calm conversation about options, keeps those customers with you whatever they decide. Confirm all program details with the administrator before mentioning them.

How we'd approach marketing in BC

Short answer: split the province into seasonal zones, launch plans to existing customers first, and build reputation before scale.

  1. Clean the list and tag by zone so coastal and Interior customers get different reminder dates. See service data and reporting.
  2. Launch the plan to consenting existing customers, starting with households you installed or serviced in the last few years.
  3. Run a fall campaign by zone, then a spring campaign on the coast.
  4. Build reviews alongside the plan. Our BC work includes GasBoilers.ca, a gas-boiler division built for CANRO Heat that serves 26+ BC communities; its 5.0★ from 76+ Google reviews shows how reputation supports trust.

If you run a boiler company anywhere in BC, call, text or email. We are local, and the free 7-day review is a good first step.

Frequently asked questions

When should a BC boiler tune-up campaign run?

On the coast, late August to mid-October usually works. In the Interior and the North, start a few weeks earlier, because the cold arrives sooner and lasts longer.

Who regulates boilers in BC?

Technical Safety BC oversees boilers, pressure vessels and gas systems, and it licenses gas contractors. We link to it; we don't advise on compliance.

Are there BC rebates for boilers?

As of October 2026, the CleanBC Better Homes programs focus mainly on heat pumps and building envelope upgrades, with rules that changed in July 2026. Confirm current eligibility with Better Homes BC before mentioning any rebate.

Do you work only in Metro Vancouver?

No. We are based in Vancouver, but we work with boiler companies across the whole province, from Victoria to Prince George.
