Boiler maintenance-plan marketing in Manitoba

Manitoba's heating season is one of the longest in southern Canada, and its boiler base includes both gas and electric systems. A good plan here keeps gas customers loyal and gives electric-boiler households an honest yearly conversation about their options.

Manitoba boiler companies work in one of the most demanding climates in southern Canada. The heating season is long, about half of homes use gas and a third use electricity, and both groups include boiler owners who need yearly attention. That mix shapes what a plan covers and how you talk to customers who are hearing about heat-pump programs.

The Manitoba market and its customers

Short answer: a Winnipeg-centred market with a mix of gas and electric heating and a strong rural service area.

Statistics Canada reports that in 2023, 52% of Manitoba households used natural gas for primary heat and 33% used electricity. Winnipeg is by far the largest market, followed by Brandon, Steinbach, Winkler, Portage la Prairie and Thompson.

For a boiler company, that split matters. Gas-boiler households need the familiar annual service. Electric-boiler households need a different conversation, because provincial programs are encouraging some of them to consider heat pumps. A plan that serves both, with inclusions written for each, helps you keep both groups.

Seasons and climate

Short answer: long, very cold prairie winters and a heating season among the longest in southern Canada.

That leaves a short comfortable window for maintenance. A suggested calendar:

  • Late July to mid-September: main plan visits and the tune-up campaign.
  • Mid-September onward: finish remaining members, then let repairs take priority.
  • May and June: a second window for members who joined late or missed the fall.

In Winnipeg, a reminder sent in October competes with the first no-heat calls. Our tune-up campaigns page shows how to start early without overloading the schedule.

Regulators to know

Short answer: the Office of the Fire Commissioner covers boilers, pressure vessels, gas and oil burners and related licensing.

We name and link regulators. We don't give compliance advice.

Current programs your customers may ask about

Short answer: as of October 2026, Manitoba's programs focus on heat pumps, including some free heat pumps for electric-boiler homes.

What this means for your plan: some electric-boiler customers will ask about switching. A plan that includes an honest yearly look at the system means they ask you, not a stranger. Confirm program details with Efficiency Manitoba before mentioning them.

How we'd approach marketing in Manitoba

Short answer: split the list by fuel type, remind early, and keep the conversation honest.

  1. Tag customers by boiler type. Gas and electric boiler households need different plan wording. Our service data and reporting work adds that field.
  2. Write two sets of plan inclusions if you service both types. See plan design.
  3. Start reminders in late July for members, and in August for other consenting customers.
  4. Prepare the office for questions about heat-pump programs, with a short, neutral answer and a link to Efficiency Manitoba.

Rural customers outside Winnipeg deserve their own reminder dates and visit routes, because a tech driving to Steinbach or Brandon can only reach so many homes a day. Call, text or email to discuss a Manitoba program. The free 7-day review looks at how you show up for boiler maintenance searches in Winnipeg and beyond.

Frequently asked questions

When should a Manitoba boiler campaign run?

Start in late July or early August. The heating season is long, and Winnipeg's first cold weeks arrive early enough that September reminders can already feel late.

Who oversees boilers in Manitoba?

The Office of the Fire Commissioner's Inspection and Technical Services handles boilers and pressure vessels, gas and oil burner permits and related licensing. We link to it and don't advise on compliance.

Are Manitoba homeowners being offered free heat pumps?

As of October 2026, Efficiency Manitoba's Affordable Home Energy Program lists free heat pumps for some qualifying homes heated by electric furnaces, baseboards or electric boilers. Details were not re-confirmed, so check with Efficiency Manitoba before mentioning it.

Should our plan cover electric boilers too?

If you service them, yes. Electric-boiler owners also benefit from a yearly visit, and a plan keeps you in the conversation if they later look at other systems.
